In the Darkness, a Fun Night It Was
Timothy Scott
I left home at a quarter past ten
To go meet up with some companions.
Jerry had a box he wanted to show us,
Said life’s greatest pleasure was inside.
I thought of the picture of Derek
From the party last week.
I parked, patiently waiting;
Waiting for Jerry’s Jeep.
When it came I jumped in.
We’re going to fly a kite,
He said.
Inside the car;
Hidden in plain sight.
He raised a hesitant hand
And asked where my girlfriend was.
Long gone, I said.
Home we went, our kites still high.
